Living a sustainable lifestyle is on the rise and as an advocate of going green, I try as much as possible to lessen my impact in every area of my daily life including travelling.
Sustainable travel brands are still not as mainstream but thankfully, they do exist, such as brands like Freitag, a Swiss brand of accessories made from recycled truck card and fully compostable textiles. For a special collaboration, Freitag had teamed up with Secrid, another brand that shares the same passion and care for the environment, to create the F705 Secrid Freitag Wallet, an upcycled card protector wallet that comes handy for every traveller.
Cash and credit cards are two things every traveler needs to keep secure while travelling, and this clever creation does just that. The aluminum card protector holds up to six credit or atm cards and can slide the cards out just by simply pressing a button. While travelling and on the run, this wallet protects cards from bending, falling off and even unwanted RFID communication. To add to its functionality, the cardprotector wallet folds into three compartments. Inside is a money flap and small inner pockets on each side to hold a few cash, coins and receipts and kept everything snug and neatly in place. I could easily spot out my cash, cards and business cards without the need to rummage through many compartments. With its simple and practical design, I also didn’t need to worry about a bulky wallet adding weight into my handbag.
A well designed piece is not only functional, it must be sustainable as well. The Secrid x Freitag collaboration had that in mind when the brands had conceptualised this accessory. Everything from the aluminum protector and sleeves are crafted within zero waste practices. Freitag is known for their bags made from used truck tarps, which is the exact, same material applied to the wallet sleeve design. This durable material is weather and waterproof, which surely keeps your wallet from wearing out and valuables safe even from environmental elements.
